    Paul's Instructions to Titus

    Titus 1:7-9 (NIV)

7Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blamelessnot overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

A Note to Our Daughters - Aim High!

Aim High!I ran across an article this morning on USAToday.com about General Ann Dunwoody. She, that's right she, has accomplished an amazing feat in our "man's army" of being the first female to earn the rank of 4-Star General.

Wow. I cannot imagine the trials, tribulations and walls she has tackled and broken down over her 33-year career in the US Army. THIS is a legitimate role model. Congratulations General Dunwoody. And thank you for showing our daughters what can be accomplished by working hard and being diligent about your focus.

Dunwoody becomes first female four-star general

A letter for my two wonderful daughters that I sent to them this morning:
You guys should take a few minutes and read this article about General Dunwoody. This is amazing what she has accomplished. You guys, as women, can do anything in this world you want to do. Dont let anyone beat you down and dont let anyone tell you that you cant reach for the stars. Aim high with your goals, very high, work hard to get there, and God will see to it that you have success. I promise. I love you!
    -dad.

Can the Chief Information Officer role get some respect? Is it a CTO we really need?

Chief Information OfficerPresident-elect Barrack Obama has announced he will be appointing our country's first Chief Technology Officer. But should he really be looking for a top engineer? Shouldn't America's first technology executive be a Chief Information Officer, not a CTO?

Technologists seem to be great at development or embracing new technologies and exposing their uses to a customer base. But do not always have the business needs and budget constraints at the forefront of their thinking.

According to Obama's policy platform he wants to use the national CTO position to:
    • Build a 21st century technology infrastructure.
    • Unite and lead the CIOs and CTOs of various federal agencies.
    • Architect innovative tech solutions to help solve big problems.

Our President is going to need a visionary that believes that business goals should always ride higher than technology strategies and should guide each technology initiative to reach the economic or political endstate. The new technology executive should be able to meet a customer's strategic needs and not sound like a vendor trying to sell a tech solution.

Who fits this description? Who is the best CIO for our country and the impending new administration? How does their experience make them a fit for the political steps of Washington yet able guide the team in the engineering bullpen?

Paul Teaches Us to "say no to ungodliness and worldly passions"

    Titus 2:11-14 (NIV)
11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hopethe glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

VMware Goes Mobile and We All Benefit

VMware on Monday announced plans to bring virtualization to mobile phones through its new VMware Mobile Virtualization Platform (MVP).

Monica Basso of Gartner said, "We predict that by 2012, more than 50 percent of new smartphones shipped will be virtualized. Virtualization can enable enterprises and consumers to easily manage and secure their phones, and it can also help handset vendors reduce bills of materials and shorten development cycles to allow for faster releases."

VMware MVP also allows IT organizations to deploy a corporate phone personality that can run alongside the employee's personal phone on the same physical device, and saves an individual's collection of applications so they can be moved to a new device if the phone is upgraded.

What does that mean to consumers? More applications, sooner. Development firms now can development smartphone software applications once to run virtualized on nearly all major smartphone hardware. Gone are the days of creating a cool application only for the iPhone or BlackBerry or Nokia.

VMware describes MVP as a thin layer of software that can be embedded on a mobile phone to decouple the applications and data from the underlying hardware. The company says MVP will be optimized to run efficiently on low power-consuming and memory-constrained mobile phones.

From Paul's Letter to Titus upon being Appointed to Crete ...

    Titus 3:3-8 (NIV)
3At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
